Inception

Adults with intellectual and Developmental Disabilities are often left without care and rehabilitation either when their parents become frail and old or when they die. As a consequence, these individuals stop their education and training, much worse, there is no long term provision or plan for their living and quality of life. In this background, parents of Andhra Mahila Sabha special school for intellectually disabled approached the parent body, DDMS (erstwhile AMS), with a request to set up a home for providing lifelong care and rehabilitation services for their adult wards.

Smt. Akkamma Krishnamurthy (1928-2021) was the founder of Andhra Mahila Sabha Mitra Mandir, a residential home set up for the life time care of the male individuals with intellectual and development disabilities.

Goal

The main aim of this unit is to provide shelter, food, care and rehabilitation for adult males with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities at an affordable price so that they can live the remaining years of their lives with dignity and quality.
